About our bath re-enamelling in Lisvane

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is usually the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our repair technicians work on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops, and the jobs we see most are wear marks under the taps and chips and rust in more than one place.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Lisvane?

A dull surface stains and holds dirt, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Stains that will not shift
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

What to look for in a quote

  • What prep work is covered
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How long it needs to cure

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

What we do, step by step

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes the best part of a day. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.
