About our bath re-enamelling in Little Chelsea

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths. Taps, tiles, panels and plumbing all stay in place. Typical jobs include stains that won’t shift and a roll-top that’s seen better days, across acrylic baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you are happy with the plan. It generally takes a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

For landlords and businesses

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

What a repair cannot fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Repair or replace in Little Chelsea?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

FAQs for Little Chelsea

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. You are under no obligation.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Little Chelsea. What changes the price is:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed price

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job without visiting.

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Keeping it looking good

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.
