How it works
Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your pictures didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the day after.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear the area around the damage
- Ensure the room can be ventilated
- Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Advice
About our bath re-enamelling in Lyness
If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. It avoids removal, plumbing and re-tiling. We are frequently asked to fix wear marks under the taps and lots of chips and rust spots, across cast iron baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.
Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Looking after it afterwards
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
- Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
- Fix dripping taps quickly
Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.
Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. It’s simpler to resurface before they spread.
Work for landlords and builders
If you manage property in Lyness, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll price them together.
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.
What we cannot put right
To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
- Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Should you replace it?
For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.
Why Lyness clients choose us
- Same prices wherever you are
- No need to remove anything
- Work done at your home or business
- We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing

Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.
