Bath re-enamelling near Magpie Green

Bath re-enamelling in Magpie Green, done in place

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Common call-outs are for a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it, on pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Roll-top bath being refinished by a Surface Doctor technician

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Landlord and trade work in Magpie Green

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, so there is no need to replace a damaged item at the last minute. We can visit several plots in one trip.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What kind of damage it is

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

For a price in Magpie Green, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

FAQs for Magpie Green

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, which is why we ventilate the bathroom. It clears as the finish cures.

Are there extra charges for Magpie Green?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

What happens on the day

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job typically takes a full day. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the day after.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Repair or replace in Magpie Green?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is typically much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

What a repair cannot fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.
