Bath re-enamelling in Matshead

Bath re-enamelling in Matshead, done in place

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. We work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are several chips and rust patches and staining under the taps and around the waste.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Matshead as everywhere else we work.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. We give every job a fixed price from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many areas need work
  • What kind of damage it is

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

When you take your pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Details of any past repairs

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Matshead?

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean
  • An old resurfacing that is failing

Questions to ask before booking

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • Who turns up on the day
  • What prep work is covered

How to compare quotes

Repairing versus replacing in Matshead

A new bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Have chips seen to early

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair is not right for every job, including:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

What we do, step by step

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes most of the day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
