Bath re-enamelling for Moulin homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Moulin

If your bath is sound but looks tired, resurfacing is normally the best value. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and people most frequently call us about brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a period or roll-top bath worth keeping.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

How it works

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes most of the day. We clean up when we are done and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We price every job individually, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • How many areas need work
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of

Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting a price from photos

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Where you are, by postcode

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Moulin questions

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Normally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Keeping it looking good

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
