Bath re-enamelling in Old Ford, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. Most baths are done in one visit, and can be used again the next day. We’re often asked to fix staining under the taps and around the waste and an outdated colour you’d like to change, across pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and Victorian roll-tops.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it.

How it works

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can

How to get a price

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The size and number of damaged areas

There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

How to get a fixed quote

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Email us pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, with your E3 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Why repair rather than replace?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why us?

  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • We leave the room as we found it

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Old Ford questions

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries our one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Do not let dyes or oils sit on the finish
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Landlord and trade work in Old Ford

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, photos and access details and we will arrange it.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath that’s rusted through

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.
