Bath re-enamelling in Plain-an-Gwarry, done in place
We re-enamel plenty of period and roll-top baths, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. We regularly repair Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are a peeling or bubbling previous coating and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off.
Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Prices and what affects them
Resurfacing from £350. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:
- What the surface is made of
- The colour and finish to match
- The type of damage
- The size and number of damaged areas
The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
Quotes from your pictures
You can generally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:
- Natural light rather than flash
- Any details about the material
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- One sharp close-up of the damage
Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can give you a fixed quote the same day in most cases.
Should I try a DIY kit first?
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.
If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.
How it works
When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take a full day. We clean up when we’re done and let you know when you can use it again.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s typically ready the next day.
Preparing for the visit
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
- Tell us about parking, stairs or access
- Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Different materials, different repairs
Acrylic
We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Should you replace it?
Replacing a bath generally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Plain-an-Gwarry. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

When we’d advise against a repair
In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:
- Steel that has corroded right through
- Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Plain-an-Gwarry
Can pets and children be at home?
Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.
Are there extra charges for Plain-an-Gwarry?
Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.
Does re-enamelling smell?
Yes, while we are applying the finish. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.
How long does re-enamelling take?
Normally one day, with the bath ready the day after. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.
Is repairing better than replacing?
Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.
Does the bath have to be removed?
No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.
Can you make a coloured bath white?
Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.
Looking after it afterwards
How the surface is treated afterwards matters:
- Repair dripping taps early
- Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
- Wash away dyes and oils after use
A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.
Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
