Bath re-enamelling for Porthgain homes

About our bath re-enamelling in Porthgain

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. We’re often asked to fix brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a roll-top that’s seen better days, on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and cast iron baths.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Common problems we fix in Porthgain

Often the bath has just had decades of use, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is typically as strong as ever.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

Choosing a repair company

Landlord and trade work in Porthgain

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Repairing versus replacing in Porthgain

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

What you get with us

How the visit works

It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which usually takes the best part of a day. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

What we cannot put right

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we work on in Porthgain

  • Acrylic baths

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Porthgain. What changes the price is:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your photos

You can usually get a fixed price without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • The material, if you know it
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Porthgain questions

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Can you quote from pictures?

Usually, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.
