What we cannot put right

We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Rotherhithe

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which would be difficult and expensive to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Our repair technicians work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths, and the jobs we see most are a peeling or bubbling previous coating and chips and rust in more than one place.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take a full day.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Getting a price from photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

For a price in Rotherhithe, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Rotherhithe

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We give you timings with the quote.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room protected and ventilated.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

What happens next?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Prices start from £350. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • Everything repaired in place
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Aftercare tips

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
