About our bath re-enamelling in Saxon Street

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common call-outs are for chips and rust in more than one place and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean, in acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and Victorian roll-tops.

Every repair is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Cambridgeshire.

Repairing versus replacing in Saxon Street

A refit takes several trades and several days. Resurfacing is one technician, normally in a day, with the bath ready the following day. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Saxon Street. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Cambridgeshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

What we cannot put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes most of the day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Saxon Street questions

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do the materials smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Repair dripping taps early

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Saxon Street?

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
