Bath re-enamelling in Shawbirch, done in place
We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. Common call-outs are for a coating lifting around the plughole and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, in pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and basins & shower trays.
Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What your bath is made of matters
Roll-top and period baths
We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.
Cast iron
Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.
FAQs for Shawbirch
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.
Do you resurface freestanding baths?
Yes. We can do the inside and outside.
Can you make a coloured bath white?
Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.
What if the damage is worse than the photos show?
If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
Can landlords book you?
Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
How soon can you come?
Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.
Is it messy?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.
What we do, step by step
A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow most of the day. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and how to care for it.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.
Getting ready for the visit
- Point us to the nearest place to park
- Ensure the room can be ventilated
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

How to look after the repair
Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
- Have chips seen to early
- Keep suction mats out of the bath
- Fix dripping taps quickly
Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.
On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
Repair or replace in Shawbirch?
If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s also far quicker. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
Why Shawbirch clients choose us
- Normally one visit, start to finish
- Colour-matched on site
- We leave the room as we found it
- We come to you, anywhere in the UK
See our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.
What we cannot put right
A repair isn’t always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We cannot fix:
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
- A bath that is rusted through
If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
Materials we repair
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Acrylic baths
How we price bath re-enamelling
Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:
- How easy the damage is to reach
- The colour and finish to match
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- How much damage there is
It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.
Getting a price from photos
A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
- The material, if you know it
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or ring us. We will say straight away if a repair is the right fix.
