How we handle bath re-enamelling in The Rock

Resurfacing renews the whole surface of the bath without a refit. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. Whether it’s an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, basins & shower trays and acrylic baths alike.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

How it works

Your technician turns up when we said we would and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take most of the day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Questions from The Rock

Will the new finish last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

How much does bath re-enamelling cost in The Rock?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed price based on photos of the damage. Send a close-up and a photo of the whole item and your postcode.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Are there extra charges for The Rock?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Never use suction bath mats

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

What affects the price in The Rock

Prices start from £350. You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for The Rock. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

You can usually get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire bath, we can give you a fixed price.

Common problems we fix in The Rock

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

How to compare quotes

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What a repair cannot fix

Not everything can be repaired, and we’d rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • A bath split right through the body

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.
