Stanmore questions

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, and that includes Stanmore. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Do you cover Stanmore?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Stanmore and the rest of Greater London. Send photos and we will quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

What information do you need?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.

What happens after I send photos?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote with dates.

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Stanmore

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. The preparation is what makes it last, so we don’t cut corners on it. If you’re dealing with worn patches where water runs and sits and a roll-top that’s seen better days, we can normally put it right, whatever the material.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Stanmore and across Greater London.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Stanmore

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Stanmore use us as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we work on in Stanmore

  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths

What happens on the day

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a full day, including clearing up.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Make sure the area is dry

What affects the price in Stanmore

Prices start from £350. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much damage there is
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What kind of damage it is

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send pictures for a quote

Two or three clear pictures are typically enough. It helps if you send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the entire bath

Email us pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, and tell us you’re in Stanmore, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Should you replace it?

A refit takes several trades and several days. Re-enamelling takes one technician and usually one day, and the bath can be used the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Stanmore

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures

  • Most jobs done in one visit

Take a look at our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
