Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, once the bath has been cleaned, repaired and prepared. If you are dealing with a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, we can help, whatever the material.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Kent.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

When a repair is not the answer

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we work on in Stede Quarter

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Stede Quarter

Enamel does not fail overnight. Abrasive cleaners, limescale and years of use wear the gloss away, starting where water runs and sits.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • Stains that won’t shift
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • An old resurfacing that is failing
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough

What to look for in a quote

  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How the colour is matched
  • How your room will be protected

Our hiring checklist

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • How many areas need work
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Questions from Stede Quarter

Will the price change on the day?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Is there a smell?

Yes, while we’re applying the finish. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

The process

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. The work itself takes most of the day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the next day.

How to prepare

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

How to get a price

To get a price, send two or three pictures using our quote form or ring us. We’ll say immediately whether it can be repaired.

Repair or replace in Stede Quarter?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Prices start from £350. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.
