Bath re-enamelling in Turnpike Lane without replacing anything

A re-enamelled bath looks and feels like a new one, without any of the disruption of replacing it. It’s ideal if you like your bathroom but not the state of the bath. Common call-outs are for enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, across acrylic baths, basins & shower trays and pressed steel baths.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

How to look after the repair

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Should you replace it?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Can I fix it myself?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

How it works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. You can expect it to take the best part of a day, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

What we cannot put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • The material and finish
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Getting a price from pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Any details about the material
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A picture taken from further back

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures using our quote form or call us. We will say straight away if a repair is the right fix.

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in Turnpike Lane, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we will price them together.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Questions from Turnpike Lane

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send photos.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes, frequently. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.
