Bath re-enamelling for Whittington homes

Bath re-enamelling in Whittington without replacing anything

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, and we take our time over it. Common call-outs are for an old resurfacing that’s failing and a bath in a colour that no longer suits, across Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Whittington and across Warwickshire.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

What you get with us

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Fix dripping taps quickly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

The process

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. On site, it takes the best part of a day. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Point us to the nearest place to park
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Whittington. What changes the price is:

  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material
  • Access to the area

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Whittington

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What prep work is covered

10 questions to ask before booking

What we can’t put right

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

FAQs for Whittington

How long does re-enamelling take?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Whittington?

Resurfacing from £350. We give a fixed quote from your photos. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.
