Bath repair in Backbarrow without replacing anything

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. Typical jobs include a chipped rim or side and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, in pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Backbarrow and across Cumbria.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Common problems we fix in Backbarrow

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

What you get with us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • A fixed quote before you book
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Questions from Backbarrow

How long does the repair take to cure?

Most baths can be used the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this often. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Will the repair last?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps.

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is my repair covered?

Yes: twelve months. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

How invisible is a bath repair?

We aim for a repair you can’t easily find. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Clean with mild, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and it can start to leak underneath.

How the visit works

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage

What affects the price in Backbarrow

Prices start from £95. There’s no area surcharge for Backbarrow. What changes the price is:

  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Please include:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Any details about the material
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath, we can price the job.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.
