About our bath repair in Failand

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. We are often asked to fix cracks in an acrylic bath and a kit repair that didn’t last, across cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Failand as everywhere else we work.

Before and after: a damaged acrylic bath corner repaired in place

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

When we would advise against a repair

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

Failand questions

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole bath and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Often, if there is access underneath. We back the hole, fill it and refinish the surface.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

What happens next?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote and the next dates we have.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Do you charge for travel?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.

Repairing versus replacing in Failand

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

When to call us in Failand

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Deep scratches in acrylic
  • Impact holes in acrylic

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How to look after the finish
  • How the colour is matched
  • What happens if they find more damage

How to compare quotes

How the visit works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to two to three hours for most chips, including clearing up.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Related advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • The material and finish
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any details about the material

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed quote, not an estimate.
