Bath repair at your home in Bristol

Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are impact holes in acrylic and deep scratches in acrylic.

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the day after.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Aftercare tips

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place.
