Bath repair for Gilmerton homes

Common questions in Gilmerton

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, and that includes Gilmerton. Prices don’t change with location.

How long before I can use the bath?

Typically the day after. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Will the price change on the day?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Bath repair at your home in Gilmerton

Most of our bath repairs take a few hours, and you can normally bathe again the day after. You won’t need a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. Typical jobs include a hole punched through by something heavy and a chipped rim or side, in cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we will come back.

Broken acrylic bath corner, rebuilt and refinished (before and after)

Keeping it looking good

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Store metal items away from the bath

Look after the repair the same way as the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, in much the same way.

Repair or replace in Gilmerton?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. You can expect it to take two to three hours for most chips.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can generally use the bath the day after.

Can I fix it myself?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Gilmerton. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • How much damage there is

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send photos for a quote

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Honest limits

Not everything can be repaired, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Do you need bath repair in Gilmerton?

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal will start to rust.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips under the taps
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

Before you book anyone

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Who turns up on the day
