Repair or replace in New Zealand?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

Questions from New Zealand

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Typically the next day. We confirm the time before we leave.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the whole UK, including New Zealand and the rest of Derby. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

In most cases. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Are there extra charges for New Zealand?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What we are called out for in New Zealand

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Legs that aren’t adjusted, a missing cradle or a soft floor let the base flex.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • Damage done while the bathroom was being fitted
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting

10 questions to ask before you book

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Have new chips seen to early

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The type of damage

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for New Zealand. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any details about the material

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, add your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in New Zealand use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we will arrange it.

How it works

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a morning or an afternoon. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, generally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Before we arrive

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
