How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The material

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your pictures

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Any details about the material

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

How we handle bath repair in Shap

It pays to repair bath damage while it’s small. Exposed metal on enamelled baths soon rusts, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. Typical jobs include rusty patches near the plughole and a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting, in acrylic, pressed steel enamel and roll-top & freestanding.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Repairing versus replacing in Shap

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Shap customers choose us

  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

Do you need bath repair in Shap?

The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and a lot happen during bathroom refits. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Shap use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it typically costs far less than a refit.

Shap questions

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Typically. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Will the repair show?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic

The process

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take two to three hours for most chips, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Aftercare tips

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale

Give the repair the full curing time we recommend before running a bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.
