Bath repair near The Chessels

Keeping it looking good

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Store metal items away from the bath

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

How we handle bath repair in The Chessels

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. If you are dealing with impact holes in acrylic and rust by the waste and overflow, we can help, whatever the material.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months in The Chessels and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What we do, step by step

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a few hours, depending on the damage, tidy-up included.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can normally use the bath the following day.

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

The Chessels questions

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

What does bath repair cost?

Repairs from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

In most cases. We reinforce the crack from behind, then fill and refinish the front, so access behind the panel is important.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Regularly. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.

Is a holed acrylic bath repairable?

Typically. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Generally the following day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Our hiring checklist

What affects the price in The Chessels

Repairs from £95. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Access to the area
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

Phone pictures are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • What it’s made of, if you know

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath brings a chain of other jobs: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. A repair skips all of it. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, including:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.
