When to call us in Soundwell

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.

People typically call us after spotting one of these:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Snagging damage from a refit

What your quote should include

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • How to look after the finish
  • What preparation is included

How to compare quotes

What happens on the day

Once we’re through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes two to three hours for most chips, depending on what we find, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We build up the finish and polish it into the surrounding enamel.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

Advice

Repair or replace in Soundwell?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it takes one visit, and the bathroom stays exactly as it is. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why Soundwell clients choose us

  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Aftercare tips

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Your questions about bath repair in Soundwell

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Generally. Send us a photo of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes. We remove the old filler and start again. Tell us about it when you send photos.

Do you come to Soundwell?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Soundwell and the rest of Bristol. Send photos and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Are there extra charges for Soundwell?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

What bath repair costs

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Access to the area

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Soundwell. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Email us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in Soundwell, and we will come back with a fixed quote.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • A steel bath rusted through

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.
