Bath repair in The Shoe, done in place
Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There is no plumbing to disconnect, your tiles stay as they are, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Typical jobs include a hole punched through by something heavy and chips caused by builders, in pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and acrylic.
A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

Landlords, agents and businesses in The Shoe
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so we keep visits short and tidy. We can work around your bookings.
Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.
Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.
Cast iron
A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.
Signs you need bath repair in The Shoe
The usual cause is something heavy dropped into the bath, and building work is a common culprit. Acrylic baths crack for a different reason: poor support underneath, so the bath flexes when it’s full.
Look out for any of the following:
- A chip where the taps sit
- Holes from dropped items
- Chips on the rim or sides
- Deep scratches in acrylic

The Shoe: your questions answered
When can you do it?
Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.
I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?
Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send pictures.
Is it messy?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.
Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?
Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.
Are you accredited?
We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that is in the quote.
Is there a call-out fee?
No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.
Repairing versus replacing in The Shoe
Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim normally crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and the plumbing has to be disconnected and refitted. Repairing the damage avoids all of that. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for The Shoe. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Honest limits
Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
- A steel bath rusted through
- A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

DIY repairs versus a professional job
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Keeping it looking good
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
- If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
- Don’t leave a fresh chip for long
- Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
A repaired bath needs no special treatment, just sensible cleaning. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.
Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so early repair keeps the cost down.
What happens on the day
We work cleanly and quietly. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a morning or an afternoon. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.
- Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the following day.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Ensure the room can be ventilated
- Clear the area around the damage
How to get a price
No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.
