Bath repair in Tynewydd

How we handle bath repair in Tynewydd

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the day after. There is no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath doesn’t move. Whether it’s chips under the taps and scuffs and scratches in the surface, we can normally put it right.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Questions from Tynewydd

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Will the repair last?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What information do you need?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787, and we’ll do the rest.

Will there be a smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.
