Bath resealing in Balemartine without replacing anything

Baths, trays, basins and kitchen worktops all get resealed using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, then it needs to cure. We are frequently asked to fix silicone smeared on tiles and leaks at the edges, on baths, kitchen worktops & sinks and wet rooms.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Your questions about bath resealing in Balemartine

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How long does silicone take to cure?

Typically after around 24 hours. We confirm before we leave.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Balemartine?

Every job gets a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item and your postcode.

What happens after I send photos?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

How long does resealing take?

Usually a couple of hours, then it needs to cure.

Can you price it without visiting?

Normally, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

Honest limits

Some jobs are not right for a repair, for example:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Signs you need bath resealing in Balemartine

A bathroom without good ventilation is hard on sealant: damp hangs around, and mould takes hold.

Look out for these signs:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Unsealed corners
  • Leaks at the edges

Questions to ask before you book

  • When it can be used again
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

How to compare quotes

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What we do, step by step

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for a couple of hours. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Related advice

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner

Avoid scraping the joints, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.
