Bath resealing in Christmas Pie without replacing anything

We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours. If you are dealing with missing sealant behind the taps and a messy previous reseal, we can usually put it right, on baths, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures alike.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Is resealing worth it?

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Christmas Pie: your questions answered

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. If photos do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can tenants book a repair?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Why does the silicone keep cracking?

Generally because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Prices and what affects them

There’s no area surcharge for Christmas Pie. What changes the price is:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Access to the area
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What the surface is made of

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • One picture of the whole bath or shower

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. It normally takes about two hours for a bath, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Ensure the area is dry

Ask for a price

If you’re in Christmas Pie and want a price, the easiest route is photos: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Air the room after use
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal

Avoid scraping the joints, and do not stand bottles on the seal.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Repairs by material

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.
