Bath resealing in Roundhay

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Bath resealing at your home in Roundhay

We cut out all of the old sealant, deal with any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Common call-outs are for missing sealant behind the taps and black mould in the sealant, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & sinks and basins & vanity units.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything isn’t right, ring us and we’ll come back.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Is resealing worth it?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your pictures is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and we start. Allow about two hours for a bath.

  1. We protect the area and mask the joint lines.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Advice

Honest limits

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • Gaps too big for silicone alone

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

FAQs for Roundhay

Is there a call-out fee?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can landlords book you?

Yes, often. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

How long does a reseal take?

A bath or shower usually takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Open a window after bathing
  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Avoid scraping the joints, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we’ll say if you need a builder or plumber.

Common problems we fix in Roundhay

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed with the bath empty.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Unsealed corners
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • A messy previous reseal

Questions to ask before you book

  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What happens if they find more damage
