Bath repair at your home in B37

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, with the colour mixed on site so the repair is hard to spot. We regularly repair acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and roll-top & freestanding, and common reasons people contact us are a cracked acrylic bath and chips along the edge of the bath.

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take a morning or an afternoon, including clearing up.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Cost

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

When we’d advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Repairing versus replacing

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. If the entire surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we’ll tell you.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • How to look after the finish
  • If travel is included in the price

How the damage happens

Heavy toiletries are the biggest single cause of chips, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water sits around them, and any chip there soon rusts.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Holes from dropped items
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

Common questions in B37

Something went through my bath. Can it be fixed?

Usually. Photos of the hole and the underside help us check.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed price, typically with dates to choose from. You’re under no obligation.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.
