Bath repair across HU17: what to expect

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. A repair stops both. We regularly repair acrylic, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are impact holes in acrylic and scratches you can feel with a fingernail.

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. It normally takes two to three hours for most chips, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. We leave it to cure; you can typically use the bath the next day.

Cost

Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Common problems we fix in HU17

Damage during fitting is very common. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, frequently before anyone notices. We repair snagging damage like this regularly.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • Chips caused by builders

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

How we price bath repair

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for HU17. The price reflects:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material and finish

A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Send photos for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Please include:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive

A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners and rinse after use.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Repairs by material

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Common questions in HU17

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

How quickly can you book me in?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you charge for travel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
