Our bath repair service in M16

We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Common call-outs are for chips under the taps and a cracked acrylic bath, in cast iron enamel, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your pictures first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

Common problems we fix in M16

Rust normally starts where water sits, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

Most people contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Holes from dropped items

Why repair rather than replace?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead.

What your quote should include

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Who turns up on the day

How to look after the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Avoid scourers, wire wool and gritty cream cleaners
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before running a bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Do not leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

M16 questions

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It fades as everything cures.

Can you redo an old repair?

Yes. We take out the old repair and do it properly. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in M16.
