Bath and surface repairs in SK5

Live in SK5? Our technicians cover Reddish, South Reddish and Brinnington and every street in between, repairing in place.

How bath repair works in SK5

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Typical jobs include cracks in an acrylic bath and chips on the rim or sides, in acrylic, cast iron enamel and pressed steel enamel.

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. The room is left tidy.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Near you in Reddish

Typical jobs here are in homes near St. Elisabeth's Church, Reddish Vale Technology College and Houldsworth Arms and the streets around them. Also close by are St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School (less than half a mile south-west) and Debdale Park (1.4 miles north). Reddish has its own railway station: Reddish South station. Nearby you’ll also find Denton West (1.2 miles north-east) and Manchester Castle (4.7 miles north-west). Open spaces near Reddish include Unicorn Grocery and Werneth Low.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber

Repair or replace?

People frequently assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Normally it doesn’t: a proper repair gives it years more use, without the cost and upheaval of replacing it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How long it needs to cure
  • How your room will be protected
  • Who will actually do the work
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Common problems we fix in SK5

Nearly all the chips we see start with something being dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal will start to rust.

The most common problems we are called about are:

  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Chips under the taps

FAQs for SK5

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour-matched repair is very hard to spot. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.
