About bath repair in ST13
A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic, and common reasons people get in touch are chips under the taps and scuffs and scratches in the surface.
On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, tidy-up included.
- We protect the bath and the floor around it.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- We match both the colour and the shine.
- We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.
What it costs in ST13
Our bath repair starts from £95. We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for ST13. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.
Why choose Surface Doctor
- Dust sheets down, tidy finish
- A year’s guarantee on all work

Can I fix it myself?
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
How the damage happens
Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.
If you can see any of these, send us a photo:
- Scuffs and scratches in the surface
- Damage beneath the taps
- Chips on the rim or sides
- Cracks in an acrylic bath
Looking after it afterwards
So the finish stays in good condition for years:
- Do not scrub with anything abrasive
- Give the bath a quick rinse after use
- Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Deal with new chips early, before rust can start.
A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.
Repair or replace?
Think about the hidden costs of a new bath: removal and disposal, plumbing, a new panel, tiling and decorating. With a repair, it’s one visit and one price.
Questions to ask before you book
- How to look after the finish
- Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
- What prep work is covered
- What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
What a repair can’t fix
We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
- A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
- A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
Common questions in ST13
Can you price it without visiting?
Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the photos can’t show what we need.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
What happens if you find more damage?
If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?
In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so let us know about it.
Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?
Frequently, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a picture.
Do you work in ST13?
We do. We send a technician to ST13 for every job, with no extra charge for travel.
Will it make a mess?
We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.
