Bath re-enamelling in Bartlow

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Bartlow

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Resurfacing them in place keeps the original bath. Common call-outs are for a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a roll-top that’s seen better days, across acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Bartlow and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

The process

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. Most visits take the best part of a day, tidy-up included.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you’re refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Work for landlords and builders

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Bartlow as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Bartlow: your questions answered

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Typically, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

How do I book?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work, which fades afterwards.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your pictures and we’ll quote them together.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before you book.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

What we’re called out for in Bartlow

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, and only the surface is worn. The body of the bath is normally perfectly sound.

People typically call us when they notice something like this:

  • Stains that will not shift
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Chips and rust in more than one place

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What aftercare is recommended

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. This is what makes a difference:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Bartlow. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Details of any past repairs
  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode

To get a price, send two or three photos through our quote form or ring us. We will say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.
