Bath re-enamelling for Crunwere homes

Bath re-enamelling in Crunwere, done in place

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. We regularly repair pressed steel baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and common reasons people contact us are a peeling or bubbling previous coating and thin, worn enamel in places.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Crunwere customers choose us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • We leave the room as we found it

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Crunwere: your questions answered

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes, we do this regularly. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. There’s no obligation to book.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Will you leave a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do you cover the whole of Pembrokeshire?

Everywhere in the UK, Crunwere included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

How to care for the repair

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, to stop limescale building up.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Crunwere?

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring
  • Brown or grey marks that do not clean off
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean
  • A coloured bath you want in white

Questions to ask before booking

  • What prep work is covered
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show
  • What protection goes down before work starts

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Send the address, photos and access details and we’ll handle the rest.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

How it works

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s usually ready the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
