Common questions in Elgin

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Bath re-enamelling in Elgin without replacing anything

Cast iron and steel baths are ideal for re-enamelling, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Typical jobs include worn patches where water runs and sits and a coloured bath you want in white, on acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we have gone.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we pay close attention there.

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Elgin

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Elgin

Older baths often have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A peeling or bubbling previous coating
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

What to look for in a quote

  • How changes to the job are handled
  • What preparation is included
  • How the colour is matched
  • How the room is protected while they work

Choosing a repair company

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

What you get with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

How it works

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
