Bath re-enamelling near Elham

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths

About our bath re-enamelling in Elham

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. If you are dealing with a bath in a colour that no longer suits and an old resurfacing that’s failing, we can typically put it right, on cast iron baths, pressed steel baths and Victorian roll-tops alike.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Work for landlords and builders

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

Elham: your questions answered

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

How long does re-enamelling last?

It depends on preparation, use and care. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and it’s guaranteed for a year.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the day after. We’ll confirm timings when we quote.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Usually, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

The process

Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. It normally takes most of the day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Elham

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough

Questions to ask before you book

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What aftercare is recommended

How to compare quotes

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.
