Need bath re-enamelling in Hackney Marshes?

Bath re-enamelling in Hackney Marshes without replacing anything

We clean, repair and prime the bath before spraying the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. We are often asked to fix a period or roll-top bath worth keeping and brown or grey marks that don’t clean off, on Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and acrylic baths.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a bath normally involves a plumber, a fitter and a tiler. Re-enamelling takes one technician and generally one day, with the bath ready the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Related advice

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured

Dry the bath after use if possible, and rinse away any product left on the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. We price every job individually, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The size and number of damaged areas

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, include your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

What we can’t put right

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
