Repair or replace: which is better?
For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s also far quicker. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

What affects the price in Longport
Resurfacing from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Longport. What changes the price is:
- Doing more than one item at once
- What the surface is made of
- The type of damage
- Unusual colours or finishes
Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access.
Send photos for a quote
Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what to send:
- A wider photo showing the whole bath
- Details of any past repairs
- One sharp close-up of the damage
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. There is no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.
When a repair is not the answer
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
- A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
- Holes rusted through the metal
If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.
Materials we repair
- Pressed steel baths
- Cast iron baths
- Acrylic baths
- Basins & shower trays
- Victorian roll-tops
What we do, step by step
It’s a tidy, low-fuss visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which generally takes the best part of a day. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
- We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- The bath is left to cure and can usually be used the day after.
Before we arrive
- Make sure the area is dry
- Have a window or extractor fan available
- Let us know if it has been repaired before
Getting a price
You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Can I fix it myself?
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.
How to look after the repair
So the finish stays in good condition:
- Have chips seen to early
- Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
- Repair dripping taps early
- Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
The first few days matter most: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.
Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.
Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel often rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.
Acrylic
Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported for the finish to last.
