How we handle bath re-enamelling in Moss Side

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without a refit. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. Typical jobs include brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and thin, worn enamel in places, across Victorian roll-tops, pressed steel baths and basins & shower trays.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Moss Side as everywhere else we work.

How to care for the repair

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. Then, gentle cleaning with a soft cloth is enough.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from pictures

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • Natural light rather than flash

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.

Do you need bath re-enamelling in Moss Side?

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, peeling around the waste or bubbling. We strip what’s failing and start again.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Lots of chips and rust spots
  • A dull, rough surface that won’t come clean

  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges

Questions from Moss Side

Do you resurface freestanding baths?

Yes. Inside and out.

Do you cover the entire of Lancashire?

All of Lancashire, and the rest of the UK. There is no extra charge for travel.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You will not be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It fades as everything cures.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Steel that has corroded right through
  • An acrylic bath that flexes badly underfoot

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we are there. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a full day. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
