Need bath re-enamelling in Old Town?

The process

We begin by going over the job with you. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. It normally takes most of the day, and we’ll keep you posted as we go.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. We spray several coats of new enamel finish.
  5. We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

Bath re-enamelling in Old Town, done in place

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. If you’re dealing with worn patches where water runs and sits and an old resurfacing that’s failing, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we’ve gone.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. There’s no area surcharge for Old Town. What changes the price is:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • The type of damage
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material

A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone photos are fine, there is no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With one close-up and one wider picture, we can price the job without visiting.

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Avoid suction-cup mats
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, particularly where water is hard, so limescale can’t build up.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Landlord and trade work in Old Town

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

FAQs for Old Town

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Generally a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. A badly pitted bath can need a second day.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send photos with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

How do I book?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Do you need to take the bath out?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Repairing versus replacing in Old Town

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we work on in Old Town

What we are called out for in Old Town

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

What your quote should include

  • What preparation is included
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • How the colour is matched
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
