About our bath re-enamelling in Pentre Cythrel

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. We regularly repair basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths, and the jobs we see most are thin, worn enamel in places and an original cast iron bath that needs restoring.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

FAQs for Pentre Cythrel

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

What information do you need?

Just pictures, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

What happens if you find more damage?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Yes. Stripping the old coating adds time, so it’s reflected in the quote.

Are there extra charges for Pentre Cythrel?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

Don’t try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It removes more of the surface.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Repair or replace in Pentre Cythrel?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and several days without a working bathroom. Resurfacing renews the entire surface without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

How it works

On the day, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job normally takes the best part of a day. We clean up when we’re done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Prices and what affects them

Resurfacing from £350. You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How many areas need work
  • The material and finish
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Pentre Cythrel. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your photos

You can usually get a fixed price without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the whole bath

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • A bath split right through the body
  • Steel that has corroded right through

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

  • Enamel that is lost its shine and feels rough
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
