Bath re-enamelling for Shute End homes

Bath re-enamelling in Shute End, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Whether it’s a bath that stays dull however much you clean it and a peeling or bubbling previous coating, we can help, on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and clear up. Plan for the best part of a day. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, frequently need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

What you get with us

  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Colour-matched on site
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our full price list and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately

A quick rinse and wipe after use helps, particularly where water is hard, to stop limescale building up.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A bath split right through the body

Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Acrylic baths

FAQs for Shute End

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

How long will the bath be out of use?

Usually a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Are there extra charges for Shute End?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Do you cover the entire of Wiltshire?

We work UK-wide. Our prices are the same everywhere.

Can I fix it myself?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. You’ll know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send photos for a quote

Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. It helps if you send:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Natural light rather than flash

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We’ll say straight away if a repair is the right fix.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so resurfacing gives them a new life.

When to call us in Shute End

Sometimes it’s an earlier resurfacing that has failed, lifting by the plughole or blistering. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.

Common reasons people in Shute End contact us include:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it

What your quote should include

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Aftercare advice
