Bath re-enamelling in The Banks

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Bath re-enamelling in The Banks without replacing anything

After cleaning, repairing and priming, we spray on the new finish. Most of the work, and most of the durability, is in the preparation, so we don’t cut corners on it. Our repair technicians work on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and Victorian roll-tops, and people most frequently call us about wear marks under the taps and an outdated colour you’d like to change.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

The Banks: your questions answered

How quickly can you book me in?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we’ll reply with the earliest dates.

Do you need to take the bath out?

No, it stays where it is. Everything is done in your bathroom, with the room masked and ventilated.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. We resurface the inside, and the outside can be refinished too.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so you know exactly what we are doing. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. Allow the best part of a day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners
  • Respect the curing time we give you
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs right away

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Prices start from £350. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why book with us

  • Normally one visit, start to finish
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • No need to remove anything
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

For landlords and businesses

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Common problems we fix in The Banks

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Several chips and rust patches

  • How your room will be protected
  • If travel is included in the price

When a repair is not the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Problems we cannot see until an old finish comes off
  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.
