Bath re-enamelling for Wivelrod homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Wivelrod

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We’re often asked to fix an original cast iron bath that needs restoring and staining under the taps and around the waste, across basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job generally takes most of the day. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Open a window if you can
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip.

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.

If a previous coating is starting to peel, don’t pick at it. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

Repairing versus replacing in Wivelrod

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why us?

  • One price list for the entire UK
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • We leave the room as we found it

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

Wivelrod questions

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we will plan for it.

Does the bath have to be removed?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

How do I book?

Photos of the damage, a photo of the whole bath and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?
