How we handle bath re-enamelling in Ball
Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We regularly repair acrylic baths, pressed steel baths and cast iron baths, and people most frequently call us about a peeling or bubbling previous coating and stains that won’t shift.
Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Questions from Ball
Does the bath have to be removed?
No, it stays where it is. We work on the bath in place, with the room protected and ventilated.
Do you charge for travel?
Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.
Can I get a quote without a visit?
Normally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.
Will you leave a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.
Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?
Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.
Can you do more than one item on the same visit?
Of course, and it normally saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.
Which areas do you work in?
We cover the entire UK, including Ball and the rest of Shropshire. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.
How long will the bath be out of use?
Most baths are done in a day and can be used the day after. We give you timings with the quote.

Why repair rather than replace?
Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: if the bath is cracked through, if you want a different size or shape, or if you are refitting the entire room anyway. In most other cases, resurfacing is the better choice. Prices start from £350. Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

What bath re-enamelling costs
Resurfacing from £350. Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:
- What the surface is made of
- How many items we do on one visit
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Ball. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send photos for a quote
Photographing the damage takes a minute. Try to send:
- Any details about the material
- Where you are, by postcode
- A wider photo showing the whole bath
- A clear, close picture of the problem area
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.
For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
For landlords and businesses
We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.
We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.
Common problems we fix in Ball
Previous coatings can fail too, peeling around the waste or bubbling. Failing coatings are stripped back before we resurface.
If you can see any of these, send us a photo:
- A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
- A coating lifting around the plughole
- An outdated colour you’d like to change
- A roll-top that is seen better days
Before you book anyone
- Aftercare advice
- How soon you can use it again
- Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
- The length of the guarantee and what it covers
Looking after it afterwards
Nothing complicated is needed:
- Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
- Respect the curing time we give you
- Store bottles off the bath
- Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Fix dripping taps quickly.
Do not try to scrub a worn bath back to shine. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

How the visit works
We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and looks over the damage before anything else. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and the room is left clean and tidy.
- First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
- We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
- We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
- Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
- We leave it to cure, and it’s generally ready the following day.
Preparing for the visit

- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Open a window if you can

Advice
Repairs by material
Acrylic
We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.
