About our bath re-enamelling in Berrow

Many of the baths we re-enamel are period roll-tops, which are heavy, hard to move and costly to replace. Doing them in place keeps an original feature. Whether it’s a coating lifting around the plughole and lots of chips and rust spots, we can generally put it right, whatever the material.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Berrow and everywhere else. We return to put right any problem with the work.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • A metal bath with a through crack

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Pressed steel baths

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Fix dripping taps quickly

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Worn enamel only gets rougher with time, and any rust spreads underneath. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Should you replace it?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one is not cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we pay close attention there.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Common problems we fix in Berrow

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

If you can see any of these, send us a picture:

  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Stains that will not shift

Choosing a repair company

Common questions in Berrow

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. A repair avoids removal and making good. If replacing would be better, we’ll say so.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote. There is no obligation to book.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send pictures.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Is there a call-out fee?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

The process

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Plan for the best part of a day. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

Advice

Landlord and trade work in Berrow

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.
