Bath re-enamelling near Borden

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Borden

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It’s the answer when the entire bath is tired rather than one spot. We work on basins & shower trays, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and common reasons people get in touch are enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and a coloured bath you want in white.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are not left on your own once we’ve gone.

Looking after it afterwards

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Leave the bath for the full curing time before using it
  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Stick to gentle, non-abrasive cleaners

Treat the new finish gently at first: let it cure fully, then use mild cleaners only. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

When we’d advise against a repair

A repair is not always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs will not solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Holes rusted through the metal

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow most of the day. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We mask and protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

How to get a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. We charge the same across the UK, including Borden. What changes the price is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Quotes from your pictures

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately whether it can be repaired.

For landlords and businesses

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover. We can visit several plots in one trip.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.

Repairing versus replacing in Borden

Replacement only makes sense in a few cases: a cracked-through bath, a change of size or shape, or a full refit. Otherwise, resurfacing generally wins. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

Why us?

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • One visit for most repairs
  • Everything repaired in place

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. The bath needs to be firm and well supported.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Common questions in Borden

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

What happens after I send photos?

You’ll get a fixed quote back. There is no obligation to book.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Just ensure the landlord agrees.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, we frequently do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

How long is the bath unusable?

One day for most baths, ready the day after. We give you timings with the quote.
